The Ultimate Hunter Valley Wedding at Spicers Guesthouse

This isn’t your typical winery wedding. Think mountain views, wild moments, and real wedding inspiration that hits you right in the feels.

When you picture a Hunter Valley wedding, you might think vineyards — but Niamh & Mark’s day brought something even more magical. Think wide-open mountain views, fire pits crackling as the sun dipped low, and a few curious kangaroos popping by to say hi. Set in the heart of the Hunter’s rugged countryside at Spicers Guesthouse, their wedding was full of warmth, wild beauty, and those real, unfiltered moments that make a day unforgettable. If you’re planning a laid-back wedding surrounded by nature, this one’s packed with all the inspiration.

When Niamh & Mark told me they were planning a destination wedding in the Hunter Valley, I knew it was going to be something special — but this day? It was on another level.

With guests flying in from Ireland, the atmosphere from the get-go was electric. Think big hugs, belly laughs, and that unmistakable hum of excitement in the air. Spicers Guesthouse was the perfect backdrop — timeless, elegant, and soaked in golden light by late afternoon. It gave us the perfect canvas for portraits, quiet moments, and plenty of movement between champagne toasts and dance floor chaos.

The ceremony was held under a canopy of gum trees, with the softest breeze and just enough emotion to warrant passing the tissues. Niamh looked effortlessly stunning (wait until you see her dress), and Mark’s face when he saw her? Let’s just say that was one of those moments I’ll never forget capturing.

From the moment these two were pronounced husband and wife, the vibe shifted from romantic to let’s party. Think: live music, drinks poured with love, and an absolutely packed dance floor that kicked off before mains were even cleared. I was dodging limbs (and catching some wild moves) well into the night — the kind of chaos that makes you want to ditch your gear and jump in.

Ceremony Idea: Get your celebrant to kick your ceremony off with a bang to really make your guests feel engaged and involved in your day. Think quirky fun facts about the bridal party or something they might not know about you as a couple. This little touch will add such a memorable moment for your guests.

We stole them away for some golden hour portraits just before sunset — a quiet pocket of time where they could breathe, take each other in, and laugh about the whirlwind unfolding around them. These two are effortlessly in sync. Their connection? Raw, honest, and a dream to photograph.

More than the location, the styling, or the details (which were all on point), it was the energy of the day that made it unforgettable. The people. The stories. The joyful kind of mess that comes with throwing tradition to the wind and making a wedding truly your own.

Dance Floor Advice: If you want your dance floor to be popping off, invest in good entertainment - Niamh & Mark hired the incredible Limited Edition Band with not only a DJ but a live singer and saxophonist too and its fair to say the dance floor was never empty.
