Wedding Planning Myths

5 Lies the Wedding Industry Sells You (That You Don’t Have to Buy)

The wedding industry is full of “rules” - most of which exist to make you spend more money, stress more, and forget what the day’s actually about. Let’s bust a few myths right now.

1. “More followers = better vendor”

A big following means they’re good at social media, not necessarily at looking after couples.

Advice: Spend some time reviewing their website, social media channels and get a feel for their personality. Does the way they show up connect with you? Do you feel like you’d want to meet them for coffee? You will remember how your photographer made you feel on your day, not just the moments they captured in photos.

2. “You can’t see each other before the ceremony”

Enter: the first look. Private, emotional, and you actually get more time together on the day.

First look tip: If you are considering a first look, chat to your photographer about how that can fit into and benefit your timeline on the day. You’ll likely find that you’ll have more time to enjoy cocktail hour or to spend with your guests because your portraits can be done following your first look.

3. “Golden hour is optional”

It’s not. Ten minutes in that light can give you some of the dreamiest photos of your life.

Golden Hour: Now, whilst we can’t predict that we’ll get a sunset on your day, setting just 10 minutes aside to have some time alone, just the two of you can be one of the most memorable moments of your day.

4. “You need to entertain guests all day”

They came for you, not a packed schedule. Let them chat, eat, drink, and dance.

5. “Rain will ruin your wedding”

Wrong. Some of the most cinematic images I’ve ever taken happened under grey skies.

Weather Mind shift: Remember why you are getting married… The weather does not affect that - it’s about your union and being surrounded by your loved ones to celebrate.
